About Beaver Scouts (Ages 6–8)

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section in our Scout Group, welcoming children aged 6 to 8. The focus at this age is simple: having fun, making friends, and learning through play.

Beavers are organised into small groups called Lodges, usually made up of about five young people. All Lodges together form
the Colony. Working in these small groups helps Beavers learn how to cooperate, share, and get along with others while enjoying exciting activities.

While having fun is at the heart of everything we do, Beaver Scouts also begin to take on small tasks that help them learn about responsibility, such as helping to set up activities or tidying up afterwards. They learn lots of new skills, but most importantly, they learn and grow together.

Having a Voice – “Log Chews”
Beaver Scouts are encouraged to have a say in the programme. We do this through review games and short Lodge gatherings called Log Chews.  Log Chews are guided by the Leaders, but they exist so Beavers can share their ideas and opinions, helping shape future activities. This gives our young members confidence and shows them that their voices matter. Shared Leadership and Responsibility

A Beaver Scout Lodge does not have a permanent leader.

Instead, every Beaver gets the chance to lead their Lodge at some point. This helps build confidence, teamwork, and early leadership skills.  Each Beaver Scout may also be given simple responsibilities—like helping to set up for an activity or assisting with clean-up—to help them learn the value of contributing to the group.

Firies Beaver Scouts currently meet on Sunday mornings from 10.30 to 11.45.
